I've noticed that the single fastest way to make an otherwise flat interior render feel like a real, occupied space is to add plants at the right scale, because a human eye reads plant size almost instinctively as a scale reference, more reliably than furniture in a lot of cases since everyone has a rough sense of how tall an indoor plant actually gets. Get the plant scale wrong, too small and the room looks cavernous, too large and it looks cramped, and it throws off the read of the whole render even if every other element is drawn correctly.

A live plant block is what you'd use when the render is meant to represent an actual planting plan a client will need to maintain, and it's worth keeping the species roughly realistic for the light conditions in the room, since a large leafy specimen that needs bright indirect light doesn't belong tucked into a windowless interior corner even in a fictional render. An artificial plant block, by contrast, is purely a staging device, useful anywhere in the room regardless of light, and it's the more honest choice for a corner that will never actually get enough natural light to support something living.
