A kitchen stove is an appliance that is used for cooking food. It can be powered by wood, charcoal, gas, or electricity and may also have an oven for baking. Some kitchen stoves are called “ranges” and have a built-in cooktop. In the past, stoves were used as a source of heat in addition to cooking, but as homes began to be heated with central heating systems, standalone cookers became more common. In some parts of the world, people still use rudimentary cookstoves or open fires powered by biomass fuels like wood, charcoal, crop residues, or dung to cook their food. Efforts are being made to develop more efficient and environmentally friendly biomass cookstoves for use in these areas.
